While most attention was focused on yesterday's Athens Grand Prix at Olympic Stadium, David Rudisha and Alan Webb scored personal bests while tuning up at the lower-key MAI-Galan meeting in Malmö, Sweden.
Rudisha, an 18 year-old Kenyan who was the 2006 IAAF World Junior champion at 800m, won the two-lapper in Malmö in 1:45.10, the best time of his career. Webb, the newly crowned USA 1500m champion, stepped down in distance and also ran a career best, finishing second in 1:45.80.
Other highlights from Malmö included a 1500m victory by Moroccan Rassioui Badr in 3:38.05; Americans Chris Solinsky and Tom Brooks both dipped under 3:40 for the first time in their careers, finishing fourth and seventh, respectively, in 3:39.26 and 3:39.91. Mark Bett of Kenya won the 5000m in 13:17.45.
