Triathlon: Standard Chartered Ironman Korea Jeju Offers US$200,000 in Prize Money

Ironman Korea and Standard Chartered Bank confirm that two prize purses totaling US$200,000 will be on offer for the 2007 Standard Chartered Ironman Korea Jeju (SCIM Korea). The SCIM Korea prize purse will total US$50,000. The Standard Chartered Bank Nations Challenge (SCBNC) will offer an additional US$150,000 to the top 10 overall finishers and top 3 finishers from each of five world regions.

“We recognize that this is a rather late announcement but we’ve worked hard to finalize this prize purse” said Tom Lee SCIM Korea’s Race Director. “We hope to provide a quality late season race for pros – especially those who may not figure into the top 10 at Kona.”

The Standard Chartered Ironman Korea Jeju will be held on August 26th on Korea’s tropical and volcanic Jeju Island. The 2007 race will mark the 8th anniversary of the race. SCIM Korea and Ironman Canada are the final same-year Ironman Qualifiers for the season.

The SCIM Korea prize purses will be distributed as follows:

SCIM KOREA OVERALL PRIZE MONEY

The overall finishers in the Professional Division will be paid prize money in U.S. dollars as follows:

Standard Chartered Bank Nations Challenge Prize Money

All SCIM Korea athletes will automatically be entered in the Standard Chartered Nations Challenge. Athletes, as determined by the passport used to enter Korea, will represent one of the following five regions:

Region 1 South East Asia (including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and India)

Region 2 North East Asia (including Korea, Japan and China)

Region 3 Europe and Oceania (including Germany, Switzerland, England, Australia and New Zealand)

Region 4 Americas (including USA, Canada and Mexico)

Region 5 Middle East, South Asia & Africa (including South Africa, and UAE)

All athletes entered in SCIM Korea are eligible to place in the SCBNC but only athletes entered in the professional division are eligible to win prize money in U.S. dollars as follows:

Total SCBNC Regional Prize Money $100,000

SCBNC Overall Prize Money

Total SCBNC Overall Prize Money $ 50,000

Total SCBNC Prize Money $150,000

Assuming that the overall SCIM Korea champion is entered in the Professional Division, he and she will win a total of $19,750 each as follows:

$8,500 – 1st Place SCIM Korea Professional Division

$5,000 – 1st Place SCBNC Region

$6,250 – 1st Place SCBNC Overall

Any unclaimed Regional prize money will be redistributed to professional athletes placing in top 10 Overall SCBNC standings.

Limited Expense and Entry Fee Waivers for Pros

Standard Chartered Bank and SCIM Korea will pay full or partial travel expenses and waive entry fees for a limited number of professional athletes. Interested athletes should immediately contact the race office Jin Park at Jin-Yong.Park@imgworld.com. The Race Organizing Committee will begin to issue invitations from the resumes on hand beginning on July 7th.
