Athletics: Indy Classic Marathon Dedicated to Military

Indy Classic Marathon dedicates Inaugural Marathon to all Active and Reserve Military Personnel and to Fallen Military Personnel who have lost their lives defending our Country since September 11th, 2001 and their families with 1st Annual Road Race and Nordic Pole Walking Corporate and Family 5K Challenge.

(Indianapolis, Indiana) Indianapolis will kick off its 1st Annual Road Race Celebration with a Marathon, 1/2 Marathon and 5k Walk/Run and first ever 5K Nordic Pole Walking Corporate and Family Challenge. The Nordic Pole Walking Challenge will be held in conjunction with the 5K foot race. It will start after the marathon and 1/2 marathon on Meridian Street at Washington and finish North on Pennsylvania Street.

Prize purse for the marathon and 1/2 marathon will cap at $500,000.00 (see prize purse below). A special award (Hummer) will be presented to the overall Active Military Winner of the Marathon.

The Marathon and 1/2 Marathon will also start at Meridian Street. The Marathon, 1/2 Marathon and 5K courses for the "Indy" are USA Track and Field certified and are perfect tune-ups for this year's fall races or to establish a qualifying time for the 2008 Boston. This race is designed to be a world class event with a home town feel and small town charm. It is designed to cater to not only local and military runners and walkers, but to elite, masters, grand masters, family members and corporations. It is a race that is convinced that healthy people boost the bottom line. International, runners from Ethiopia, Kenya, Russia and Romania such as, Claudia Colita (Record holder of the Country Music one-half Marathon, winner of the Rite Aid marathon and Jared Naymoboki (winner of the 2006 Army Ten Miler) are just a few elite athletes who will participate.

5K Nordic Pole Walking is a new sport to United States, but very popular in Europe. It is described as cross-country skiing without the skis: (A HREF="http://www.runnersweb.com/running/news/rw_news_20070523_Foot_Solutions.html" target="_news">RunnersWeb.com) and snow, exercises the entire body encouraging an upright posture and balance without placing unnecessary stress on the muscles ligaments and tendons. Participants use their arms to push off from their flexible poles, engaging the entire range of upper-body muscles The poles relieve lower body strain and tone the shoulders, arms and back.

The 5K Nordic Pole Walking Challenge is sponsored by Foot Solutions, the worldwide foot care health and wellness company. Foot Solutions is one of the first companies to introduce this new form of exercise to the United States.

"The activity is not only excellent for the elite athletes, it is great workout for everyone at all levels of fitness especially soldiers who put stress on their tendons, ligaments and muscles everyday while training in combat boots," said Lt. Col (Retired) Sue Bozgoz.
