Galaviz sets American steeple record
2006 USA Outdoor champion Lisa Galaviz set a new American record in the
women's 3,000 meter steeplechase Saturday at the KBC Night of Athletics
in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
Galaviz finished fourth in 9 minutes 28.75 seconds to better the
previous American record of 9:29.32 set by Brianna Shook, also at
Heusden-Zolder, on July 31, 2004. Galaviz, who placed fourth at the 2007
AT&T USA Outdoor Championships, posted her previous personal best time
of 9:40.58 in 2005.
Webb sets 800m personal best
Just one week after setting the American record in the men's mile,
reigning USA Outdoor 1,500m champion Alan Webb continued his remarkable
2007 outdoor season by setting a new personal best in the 800 meters
with his winning time of 1 minute 43.84 seconds Saturday night at
Heusden-Zolder. Webb's performance, which ranks #2 in the world this
year, makes him the eighth-fastest American ever at that distance. His
previous 800m career best occurred earlier this month on July 3 in
Malmo, Sweden, where he finished in 1:45.80.
Webb broke the U.S. men's mile record on July 21, 2007, with his 3:46.91
clocking in Brasschaa, Belgium, which leads the 2007 world list. Webb's
performance bettered the previous record of 3:47.69 set by National
Track & Field Hall of Famer Steve Scott in 1982.
Webb set a 1,500m personal best on July 6 in Paris with his time of
3:30.54, which is the fastest time in the world in 2007.
