Athletics: New Razorbacks Earn National Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Spencer McCorkel and Michael Chinchar, soon-to-be freshmen on the Arkansas track and field team, have been named to the 2007 USA TODAY All-USA high school boys track and field team. The 2007 USA TODAY All-USA high school track and field teams were coordinated by Jack Shepard, high school editor of Track and Field News.

Criteria for being named to the team included ranking on USA TODAY and Track and Field News national lists, the number of top performances and head-to-head competition in the regular season and major postseason meets.

McCorkel is a native of Bryant, Ark. and will bring immediate scoring potential in the pole vault. He cleared a personal- and national-best of 17-9 during the 2007 outdoor season. He also finished third at the USA Junior Championships in June.

Chinchar, a native of Seattle, Wash., will join head coach John McDonnell’s heralded distance crew. He holds personal bests of 3:51.45 in the 1,500 meters and 4:09.67 in the mile run. He finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at the USA Championships in June.
