Athletics: Jordan named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Victoria Jordan has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after several outstanding performances at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships July 24-29 in Walnut, Calif.

Jordan won set two national records in the young women's (17-18) age division, on her way to picking up four gold medals. Jordan's first record came in the prelims of the 200 meter dash, where she finished in 23.24 seconds. That time bettered the previous record of 23.27 set in 2006 by Gabrielle Mayo. In the 200m finals, Jordan posted a wind-aided time of 22.84 to take the championship. She anchored the Dallas Gold Track Club's 4x100m relay to a winning time of 44.43, which broke the record of 44.56 set by the same club in 2006.

Jordan also earned a championship in the 100m with a time of 11.36. She completed her impressive weekend with a 53-second split while anchoring the winning 4x400m relay to a time of 3 minutes 39.10 seconds.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
