Inaugural race attracts international field
Traditionally, Canada and the US have been known for their battles in the
hockey arena, but on September 16th, the top American and Canadian women
will go head to head at the Subaru Vancouver International Half Iron
Triathlon. The event will be staged at the beautiful Spanish Banks and
University of British Columbia Endowment Lands with the magnificent
Vancouver city and mountain skyline serving as the backdrop. Athletes from
the Brazil, Germany, the US, and across Canada have confirmed their
participation in this inaugural race, which marks the third and final stop
of the Subaru West Coast Triathlon Series.
Linsey Corbin from Montana will headline a very strong field of
international women. Corbin showed she is a champion earlier this year with
a victory at the 70.3 Half Ironman in Baha, Mexico. Canadian Sarah Gross
(Calgary) who just picked up the silver medal at Ironman Canada on August
26th, will try to make it a Canadian victory on her native soil. Also
looking for the podium will be Bree Wee, from Kona, Hawaii, who was 3rd at
Honu 70.3 Half Ironman, and local Vancouver favourite, Christina Fletcher,
3rd place finisher at Ironman Canada 2005. The competitors will be using the
Subaru Vancouver International Half Iron as a preparation race for the
Ironman World Championships in Hawaii set to take place October 13th.
In the men’s division, Chris Brown of Calgary, who was the 3rd place
professional at Ironman Canada, will face local Craig Costantino, a former
member of the National Duathlon Team, and Trevor Williams of Calgary, the
2007 Prestige Half Iron Champion.
