Join Olympic gold and silver medalist Frank Shorter for a training run
PHOENIX, Ariz., Sept. 19, 2007 - The 5th annual P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ˝ Marathon is just four months away and SRP EarthWise Energy is hosting a training kick-off party and run on Thursday, October 4, 2007 from 5-8:00 p.m. at G.R. Herberger Park. Olympic gold and silver medalist Frank Shorter and Runner's World columnist John "The Penguin" Bingham will lead guests on a 3.5-mile training run/walk.
This free, annual community event provides training tips and support to anyone interested in participating in the race on January 13, 2008. Runners and walkers of all abilities are encouraged to attend the kick-off party.
Organizers will roll back race registration fees by $10 for those who sign up for the race at the party, and the first 100 people to register will receive a free training t-shirt.
"Our annual Training Kick-off Party is a fun event, but more importantly it teaches runners and walkers the best ways to get ready for a race," said event director Dawn Reichart. "It's also a great way to start the training season."
Guests will enjoy music, a mini Health & Fitness Expo with booths geared toward training, free food and refreshments compliments of P.F.Chang's, NYPD Pizza and Michelob Ultra, games and raffle prizes.
At 5:45 p.m. Frank Shorter and John "The Penguin" Bingham will conduct an interactive question and answer session before leading guests on a short 3.5-mile training run through the SRP canals.
For those who want to run for a cause, official charities will be on-site with information about their marathon and half-marathon training programs. Guests interested in participating with co-workers can learn more about the GET FIT Challenge and register their company team for the race.
SRP EarthWise Energy is inviting all of its customers to join the EarthWise Energy Team by donating $3 each month for a year to help fund renewable energy projects in the community. Anyone who signs up for the EarthWise Energy Team at the SRP Training Kick-off Party will receive a special goodie bag and running singlet valued at $50.
