OTTAWA - Athletics Canada published today the selection criteria for the 2008 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Indoor Championships which will be held in Valencia, Spain March 7-9 2008.
Athletes will be nominated to the team in order of performance ranking during the qualifying period beginning on January 1 and ending February 18, 2008. The remaining positions will be filled from the eligibility pool based on performance ranking. Athletics Canada's focus in selecting athletes to the team is geared towards top eight finishes.
The eligibility pool is composed of three standard categories. In the first scenario an athlete must reach an A standard between January 1 and February 11, 2008. The second includes those who met at least one standard during the outdoor season (June 1 - December 31, 2007) as well as one indoor B standard. The third scenario includes those who finished top 12 at the 2007 World Championships and have reached one B standard during the indoor qualifying period. Combined events athletes are selected by invitation from the IAAF.

Canada came away with two medals at the 2004 World Indoors. Perdita Felicien of Pickering, ON took the gold in the 60-metre hurdles and Carmen Douma-Hussar of Cambridge, ON won the silver in the 1500-metres.
The team will be chosen shortly following the conclusion of the declaration deadline of February 11, 2008.
