Athletics: Valley Runners Wanted for Foot Locker City Challenge at P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. (October 30, 2007) – Foot Locker celebrates its fifth year as a partner with the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon, with its Foot Locker City Challenge. Known as “the race within the race,” Foot Locker will select six marathon runners from the cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe to race against one another at the musical marathon on January 13, 2008. Interested men and women are encouraged to sign up now. The Foot Locker City Challenge is a unique program in which six P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon runners from Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe are selected to represent their city during the race. Two runners will be selected from each city. On race day, the group will run together for the first 13 miles of the race. At that point, the racers may break from the group and pursue the title. The participant who finishes the 26.2-mile marathon in the fastest time is named Foot Locker City Challenge champion. To date, both Phoenix and Scottsdale have produced two wins each, so the challenge remains for the city of Tempe. Applicants must plan to complete the marathon between 3:45:00 and 4:00:00 and apply online at www.RnRaz.com by Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Applicants will be interviewed and selected by Foot Locker representatives and race organizers. The Foot Locker City Challenge is open to marathon runners only. The Foot Locker City Challenge champion will receive a prize package that includes a Tiffany & Co. trophy and a two-night stay at one of the Valley’s finest resorts. The champion will also be recognized on stage at the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona post-race concert at Tempe Beach Park on race night. The entire team can expect to be featured on the local television broadcast of the race.
