The Indoor Visa Championship Series will add a new stop in 2008, USATF reported yesterday.
On Monday, Jan. 21, at the Save Mart Center on the campus of Fresno State University a new 160 yard indoor track will be unveiled for three meetings at the high school, collegiate and senior levels, the last dubbed "Run for The Dream" which will feature a new USA vs. the world team format. Jan. 21 is Martin Luther King Day in the United States.
The USA vs. The World event will feature top U.S. and international athletes competing in seven individual events each for men and women, plus the 4x400m relay, in a scored, team competition. Team USA athletes will take on a squad of International All-Stars in the first team-scored meet in Visa Championship Series history.
"Since the Visa Championship Series began in 1999, we have been looking for our best strategic opportunity to have a leg of the indoor series in California," said USATF CEO Craig Masback in a prepared statement.
The new meeting in Fresno brings the total number of competitions in the Indoor Visa Championship Series to five. The other fixtures are the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 26; the Millrose Games on Feb. 1, in New York City; the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 16, in Fayetteville, Ark., and the AT&T U.S. Indoor Championships, Feb. 22 - 24 in Boston.
