Triathlon: Ironman France to be the biggest Ironman world wide

Ironman France, taking place on 22 June 2008, will probably be the biggest Ironman race in the world. With more than 2300 applications, this race has the capacity to see 2500 athletes on the starting line for a spectacular race in one of the world’s most beautiful settings: the Côte d’Azur.

“This race could possibly become the biggest Ironman race world wide. We’ve already had this vision when moving the race to the Côte d’Azur, but we did not imagine this to happen so fast!” declares Georg Hochegger, founder of Triangle. “We decided to accept the challenge and prepare for the biggest Ironman party the world has ever seen in June 2008.”

Registration remains open while already more than 2300 triathletes have signed up. The expected number of athletes at the starting line is between 2200 and 2500. Nice, the Côte d’Azur and the Alpes Maritime department are well ready to host a race of these dimensions in 2008

“First we thought we should grow our race slowly. But athletes keep knocking on our door, so why not offer a fantastic race experience to more than athletes? We will do everything to set up the most spectacular Ironman race so triathletes can profit not only from the wonderful region and landscapes, but also savor outstanding services on the organizational side.” says race director Yves Cordier.

Other than organizational capacities, logistical issues are another key factor. The clear waters of the Mediterranean do not limit the number of participants during the swim, the beach is broad and long enough to adapt to any number of swimmers. The bike circuit is based on a single loop course with no intersections will ease the biking experience. The Promenade des Anglais offers enough space for the marathon. The City of Nice welcomes running events on the Promenade with 8000 participants each year.

The size of the bike park and transition areas had to be adapted and with the support of the City of Nice this was possible and athletes will have enough space to get through the transitions smoothly. The Finishline will be even bigger, and the resting area after the Finishline with massage and relaxing opportunities for athletes will be larger than in the last editions. The Pasta Party and Awards Ceremony will remain in their location: The 9000m2 Palais des Exposition will be host to those side events and like in the last editions, only a part of the whole surface will be in use.

Triangle France is happy to have given back to the Triathlon de Nice all the shining that it merits.
