Organizers of the New Balance Moonlight Run 5-K in New Milford, Conn., will celebrate the 15th edition of the race this year with a new date and course record bonus.
Moving from its traditional date on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, the race will take place two weeks later on Friday, June 6, according to race director Wallie Jahn of Road & Track Sports in New Milford. The new date will allow athletes to run the Moonlight Run on Friday and the Litchfield Hills Road Race in nearby Litchfield two days later on the same trip to Connecticut.
Moreover, Jahn will offer a $1000 bonus for a new male or female course record, inspired by Kenyan Tom Nyariki's 13:36 record set last year.
"Tom set a new standard for the New Balance Moonlight Run, so I thought it fitting to increase the course record bonus money to meet this new challenge," said Jahn. The record was $250 last year.
The women's course record is 15:51 by Ireland's Breeda Dennehy-Willis set in 1998.
