(St. Paul, MN – 3/5/2008)––Best of the US Management and Exclusive Sports Marketing invite the talented amateurs of the Sunshine State to compete at the Zephyr™ Sport Sprint Triathlon / Best of the US Florida Qualifier in St. Augustine on May 3. The top placing male and female resident amateurs will earn the right to compete at the 2008 Soma Quarterman Best of the US Championship in Tempe, AZ on October 26.
Team Florida has always excelled at the BOUS Championship. In 2005, Vero Beach’s Lotte Branigan and North Palm Beach’s John Reback took home the Fastest State Team Trophy. Both Branigan and Reback are former USAT Athletes of the Year.
Branigan anchored Team Florida in 2006, finish 2nd overall for the second consecutive year. She also was crowned USAT Athlete of the Year at season’s end.
Branigan sustained an injury in 2007 and had to pass her slot to Angela Hygema, who teamed with Branigan’s husband, Eddie. Team Florida placed a very respectable 7th (Branigan finished 7th among the men; Hygema 11th in the women’s race).
In addition to the Branigans, Reback and Hygema, we hope to see many of Florida’s national and world-class amateur triathletes on the staring line on May 3. This list includes Linda Robb (former USAT AOY & Master of the Year), Ashley Carusone (former age-group world champion) Dustin McLarty, Boris Fernandez, Sarah Megan Quinty, Rob Skaggs, Kevin Grogan, Anton Van Zyl, Sharon Beltrandelrio, Alexandra Lechner and junior sensation Kaitland Cosgrove, just to name a few.
The Best of the U.S. Amateur Triathlete Competition is produced by Midwest Events, LLC of Saint Paul, Minnesota.
