Athletics: Knight named USATF Athlete of the Week

Watch over 50 IAAF Events Live and On-Demand at WCSN.com

INDIANAPOLIS - Bianca Knight has been named USATF's Athlete of the Week after winning the women's 200m at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

The 2005 World Youth 100m champion and 200m silver medalist, Knight claimed her first NCAA title in the women's 200m in a world-leading, collegiate record 22.40 seconds. It was the fastest time ever run by a junior athlete and places her as the eighth best performer on the All-time list. The previous record of 22.43 was set by Jamaica's Veronica Campbell in 2004. Knight also took third-place in the women's 60m, crossing the line in 7.21 and she set a personal best in the prelims, winning her heat in 7.16.

Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

2008 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 8, Cheryl Foody; January 16, Nick Vena; January 22, Chanelle Price; January 29, Antwon Hicks; February 5, Adam Nelson; February 12, Lolo Jones; February 19, Adam Nelson; February 27, Michael Rodgers; March 3, Thomas Morgan; March 11, Bryan Clay; March 18, Bianca Knight.
