FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern Conference announced its 2008 SEC Indoor Track and Field All-Freshman team Wednesday, honoring the league’s top freshmen finishers in each individual event from the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. This is the first year for the All-Freshman Team.
Duncan Phillips was named the list after an eighth-place finish in the mile championship. Running with an injured groin, he finished eighth in the race with a time of 4:09.62. He was one of three Razorbacks to score points in the event. Phillips clocked a prelim time of 4:09.40 to automatically advance to the finals.
Kentucky and South Carolina had four apiece selected, followed by Tennessee with three and Alabama, Arkansas and LSU each with one. Kentucky's Derrick Locke (60-meter dash and long jump) was a dual-event finisher.
Arkansas track and field will open the outdoor season at Texas Relays, April 2-5, in Austin, Texas and at the Stanford Invitational, April 4-5, in Palo Alto, Calif.
