Athletics: Kenyans Patrick Makau Musyoki and Peninah Arusei win the Vattenfall Berlin Half-Marathon

There was a double Kenyan success at the 28th edition of the Vattenfall Berlin Half-Marathon. The defending champion Patrick Makau Musyoki triumphed in the biggest and most prestigious German race over 21.0975 km in exactly 60 minutes. Losing out in the tightest of sprint finishes was Eshetu Wondimu (Ethiopia) who crossed the line one second later. Third was Elijah Keitany (Kenya) in 60:10. Five men ran under 61 minutes.

The women’s winner Peninah Arusei achieved the third fastest time in the world this year of 68:22 despite cold conditions. Pauline Wangui (Kenya/69:51) and the former Kenyan Isabellah Andersson (Sweden/71:24) were the next finishers. Taking into account competitors in every discipline, the 28th edition of the Vattenfall Berlin Half-Marathon had a record number of 24,551 athletes from 86 nations entered. For the first time a half-marathon race in Germany had over 20,000 entries (20,660).
