OTTAWA – The 2007 RBC Canadian Track and Field Championships were announced winners of the 2008 CSTA Sport Event of the Year Award (budget under $250,000) at a ceremony this past weekend held in Gatineau, QC.
Hosted by the University of Windsor, the Windsor Legion Track and Field Club and the City of Windsor, the championships were held at University of Windsor Stadium from July 12 to 15. Over 900 athletes competed for Canadian titles in Athletics Canada’s first fully integrated championships, staging both para-athletics and able bodied athletes in the same competition.
The Championships also served as the selection trials for the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Athletics which were later held in Osaka, Japan. Perdita Felicien from Pickering, ON and Gary Reed from Victoria, BC won silver in the 100 metre hurdles and 800 metres respectively. Chantal Petitclerc won gold in the 1500 metres wheelchair demonstration event.
