INDIANAPOLIS - University of Texas senior Leo Manzano has been named USA
Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after running the winning anchor leg
in two events for the Longhorns last week at the 114th Penn Relays in
Philadelphia.
An eight-time collegiate All-American, Manzano anchored the Longhorns to
victories in the distance medley and 4xMile relays at Penn, earning the
Outstanding College Relay Performer award.
Manzano, who also ran anchor when Texas won the DMR and 4xMile relays at
Penn in 2007, posted a split of 4:01.8 in the 1,600m leg of the DMR this
year at Penn in helping the Longhorns win the event in 9:32.89. Texas
won the men's 4xMile relay in 16:29.50, with Manzano's anchor leg split
of 4:08.2 sealing the victory.
Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed
to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF
names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF
website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the
previous week.
