Organizers have secured great line-ups for Sunday's adidas Track Classic at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and that includes the middle and long distance events.
The men's 1500m is shaping up to the the top event, led by double world champion and two-time Olympic medalist, Bernard Lagat. Commonwealth Games medalists Nick Willis of Australia and Nate Brannen of Canada are also in the field, along with perennial Canadia star Kevin Sullivan and former NCAA ace Lopez Lomong. Nick Symmonds will be moving up from his usual specialty, the 800m, while 5000m man Adam Goucher will be moving down for a speed workout.
The men's 3-K features Galen Rupp, Jonathon Riley, Jorge and Edwardo Torres, Ed Moran, Josh Rohatinsky and Ian Dobson. There's also a 5-K with African Championships 5000m bronze medalist Ali Abdosh and Irish star Alistair Cragg. David Krummenacker hopes to regain his form in the men's 800m.
On the women's side, there is a compelling match-up between world junior cross country champion Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia and America's Kara Goucher. Two-time Olympian Jen Rhines is also competing with former Stanford star Ari Lambie. USA leader Shannon Rowbury headlines the 1500m and will be up against USA indoor champion Christin Wurth-Thomas and reigning USA outdoor 1500m champion Treniere Clement. In the 800m Alice Schmidt will square off against Erin Donohue.
The meet, which is part of the USATF Visa Championship Series, will be televised in the United States on ESPN from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT.
