Maryam Yusuf Jamal, the reigning world champion at 1500m, has been added to the line-up at the Reebok Grand Prix, scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at New York City's Ichan Stadium, organizers announced today.
Jamal, 23, who began her career as the Ethiopian Zenebech Tola before becoming a Bahraini citizen at the end of 2004, will compete in the 1500m in New York. It will be her first appearance at the meet, and with a personal best time of 3:56.18 she is a good bet to topple Australian Sarah Jamieson's meet record of 4:04.57 set in 2006.
Organizers also announced that sprint stars Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards would compete along with pole vault sensation Jenn Stuczynski, the American record holder. They had previously announced a tantalizing match-up between Tyson Gay and Usain Bolt in the 100 meters.
Additional seating has been added to the backstraight at Ichan Stadium to accommodate the demand for tickets which can be purchased at ReebokGrandPrix.com. Ichan Stadium is on Randall's Island in New York City's East River, just off of Manhattan island. It can be reached by car or bus.
