NEW YORK (31-May) -- Area forecasters are predicting strong thunderstorms here today, with the worst weather expected between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m., roughly the time that the fourth annual Reebok Grand Prix will be held at Ichan Stadium on Randall's Island. The meet, an IAAF Grand Prix event, begins at 5:00 p.m.

"If you have plans this weekend, listen up because it has a split look to it," WPIX-TV meteorologist Irv. 'Mr. G.' Gikofsky told his viewers on the station's website last night. "It may come down heavy, if not severe, which means cloud to ground lightning; there could be hale," he said. Winds could hit 40 MPH (64 KPH) and about one inch (2.5 cm) of rain could fall.

Sunday's weather will be fine, said Gikofsky.

The meet is packed with talent, including Olympic and world champions like Allyson Felix, Liu Xiang and Tyson Gay.
