Triathlon: USAT Partners with USOC for New Website

Watch over 50 IAAF Events Live and On-Demand at WCSN.com

Site includes enhanced features such as video, photo galleries and blogs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 11, 2008) -- USA Triathlon and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) have partnered to deliver a new website, triathlon.teamusa.org.

Initially, the site will provide up-to-date news and stories relating to triathlon. Content will expand over the next few weeks to include USA Triathlon programs at all levels and all content from the organization's current site, USATriathlon.org.

The site launched May 30 as part of the overall USOC website www.teamusa.org, which incorporates information from all National Governing Bodies within the USOC. Teamusa.org will help form a "one-stop shop" by aggregating Team USA and Olympic sport content into one place.

Although still in a transition stage in populating stories, events and other content, the dynamic new site under the www.teamusa.org umbrella eventually will introduce elements such as rich video highlights and streaming video, feature stories on U.S. Olympians, National Team members, and age group athletes, training and racing tips, photo galleries, athlete blogs and social networking tools.

"USAT is thrilled to launch a completely redesigned website in partnership with the USOC and 27 other National Governing Bodies," said USA Triathlon Executive Director Skip Gilbert. "This new site will bring more functionality and more homepage elements for our constituents and provide them with significantly more content. Our sport and those who embrace it are tech leaders, and USAT must provide a website that feeds their appetite. We're confident this site will do just that. While we are still migrating data over to the new site, we expect it to be fully functional in just a few short weeks."

USA Triathlon's current site, usatriathlon.org , will continue to function in the short term as information is migrated to the new site, creating a single Internet home for the organization in the future. Once the content migration is complete, visitors to usatriathlon.org automatically will be redirected to the new site.

AT&T, Official Partner and the Official Telecommunications Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Team will host the new site. The USOC has assembled a team of leading technology providers including AT&T and Sports Technologies Inc, (STI) along with the industry's leading strategy consultants and significant USOC resources to deliver the site. The site was designed by STI, an affiliate of Time, Inc. and the creator of FanNation.

"Teamusa.org will allow fans of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams the opportunity to better connect with America's athletes on their journey to the Games and is one more example of how the U.S. Olympic Committee is connecting a younger audience with Olympic content," said USOC Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr. "With the rapid growth of Internet technology since Athens and Torino, we felt it was important to continue to augment and update the features offered on our website."

A team of freelance writers has been hired to produce original feature stories for Teamusa.org. Visitors can also contribute by leaving comments, rating stories and sharing content with their friends. Additionally, athletes will blog for the site. Beijing Olympian Laura Bennett is one of 11 athletes to provide blogs through Teamusa.org.

Among the enhanced features the site will provide during coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are slide shows, feature stories, up-to-date news, athlete interview videos and athlete chat sessions.
