Athletics: Inaugural 13.1™ Marathon Series Launches in November with Races in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Chicago, and Atlanta

National Half Marathon Series Will Provide Special Experience for First-Timers and Veterans

(Miami June 18, 2008) – US Road Sports and Entertainment Group (US Road Sports) is launching a national series of races known as 13.1™ Marathon to provide the running community with stand-alone half marathon events. Races will offer a more intimate experience by limiting fields to from 2,000 to 5,000 participants, providing novice walkers and runners a less intimidating race experience while allowing faster runners to run unabated en route to fast times and personal records.

The focus of the 13.1™ Marathon series will be on providing quality events to local and national participants that highlight the best of each community. For new runners and walkers, often referred to as “first-timers,” smaller participant fields will make racing less overwhelming when compared to larger events that consist of more than 10,000 participants. At the same time, the limited number of participants will provide experienced runners the perfect setting to start fast, avoid the crowds, and finish with the opportunity to run faster times. Finally, 13.1™ Marathon races which have a motto of “You can’t run a full without finishing a half,” will be positioned as training races for marathoners preparing for a local or national marathon. The first event of the series, 13.1™ Marathon Ft. Lauderdale is scheduled for November 16, 2008 and will be produced by PR Racing, producers of the ING Miami Marathon.

Robert Pozo, executive race director of US Road Sports, commented, “We are committed to the development of the sport and the positive impact it has on the overall wellness of our participants and the communities we serve. The 13.1™ Marathon races are being created in response to the growing demand for half marathons and the support for the distance as a race for people who want to accomplish something great.”

The 13.1™ Marathon races are the first new series of events added to the family of events produced by US Road Sports, which currently includes the ING Miami Marathon & Half Marathon, the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon, the Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon, the Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon and the Blue Cross& Blue Shield of Florida Running Series. The inaugural 13.1™ Marathon events will take place in cities that have been recognized as strong or growing running communities, and will include new races scheduled for 2009 in Miami (March 2009), Chicago, and Atlanta.

A registration blitz for the 13.1™ Marathon Ft. Lauderdale begins online July 2, 2008 through 11:59 PM EST July 4, 2008. Registration will be significantly reduced to $29 for the first 131 participants to register during the blitz followed by a $40 fee through the end of the blitz. Regular fees will be $55 after the 3-day blitz has expired. Registration and race information for 13.1 Marathon can be found at www.131marathon.com.
