Russia's Yelena Soboleva continued to have an outstanding season, clocking a world leading 3:56.59 over 1500m at yesterday's Kuts Memorial meeting in Moscow.
Soboleva, who won the IAAF World Indoor title at 1500m last March in Valencia with a world indoor record 3:57.71, also ran a very fast 1:55.7 over 800m in Tula on July 5. That makes her the second fastest 800m runner in the world so far this year after Kenyan sensation Pamela Jelimo.
With her performance in Moscow yesterday, Soboleva has broken the four-minute barrier at 1500m eight times outdoors (including one en route mark), and three times indoors. The 25 year-old looks like the top contender for Olympic gold next month in Beijing.
