OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today that 10 000 metre runner Eric
Gillis from Antigonish, NS has been added to the Olympic Games nomination
list.
Gillis who currently resides and trains in Guelph, ON was not on the
original list when the team was nominated July 7 but the National Team
Committee re-considered their decision as new elements were presented during
the appeal process.
Martin Goulet, Athletics Canada’s Chief High Performance Officer endorses
the decision, “The National Team Committee has a high level of confidence in
Eric’s program and coaching, this, combined with the fact that the appeal
brought to light some grey zones in Athletics Canada’s Olympic Selection
Criteria led us to rule in favour of the athlete”.
The number of track and field athletes nominated to the Olympic team now
stand at 31.
Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track
and field, cross-country running, road running and road racing.
