Second year event now one of the largest all-women’s races on the East coast
August 4, 2008-- (Philadelphia, PA) : Rebeccah Wassner continued her winning ways in Philadelphia as she took home the 2008 SheROX Philadelphia Triathlon – the premier event of the SheROX Triathlon Series. In just its second year, SheROX Philadelphia sold out with 1,500 women registered making this one of the largest all-women’s races on the East coast.
Wassner, who also won the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon in June, dominated the sprint distance course going wire-to-wire in a time of 1:11:58 and pocketed $2,000 in prize money as champion. Laurel Wassner finished in second place in 1:16:04 just over four minutes behind her sister. Local pro Laurie Hug rounded out the podium finishing in 1:17:12. SheROX Philadelphia is one of the only all-women’s races in the U.S. to offer prize money with the elite and age-group winners sharing a $4,750 prize purse.
The signature element of each SheROX Triathlon is its focus on cultivating a passion in women for the multi-sport lifestyle through the exclusive SheROX Mentor Program. Sunday’s SheROX race was the first triathlon for more than half of the registered participants.
Founded in 2007, the SheROX Triathlon Series was launched with the inaugural SheROX Philadelphia Triathlon. In 2008, the series expanded nationally with SheROX sprint triathlons in Tempe, AZ, Philadelphia and Charlotte, NC. Produced by the organizers of the popular Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon, each event in the SheROX Triathlon Series is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and designed to ensure that every participant feels a sense of personal satisfaction, accomplishment and empowerment.
