OTTAWA - Stefanie Reid from Windsor, ON won bronze today at the 2008 Paralympic Games in the women’s amputee 200 metres (T44 classification) with a seasonal best time of 28.85 seconds. Earlier in the day Reid competed in the F44 long jump finishing fifth with a jump of 4.61 metres.
Ilana Duff of Saskatoon, SK set a new pending Canadian Record in the women’s wheelchair 400 metres (T53 classification) with a time of 1:00.80. Duff qualified for the final which takes place tomorrow at 6:10am EST (Wednesday September 10th).
Other Canadian track and field results from Tuesday:
· Kris Vriend of Edmonton, AB finished 7th in the F35/36 cerebral palsy discus throw final with a throw of 17.46m good for 811 points.
· Montréal’s Chantal Petitclerc finished first in her heat in the T54 wheelchair 100 metres and advances to the final
· Éric Gautier of St-Faustin-Lac-Carre, QC did not advance in the T53 wheelchair 400 metres finishing 6th in heat 3 with a time of 55.94
· Brent Lakatos of Dorval, QC finished second in the T53 wheelchair 400 metres rounds and has advanced to Thursday’s final
· Jean-Paul Compaore of Sherbrooke, QC and Colin Mathieson of Winnipeg, MB both failed to advance from the semi-finals in the T54 wheelchair 400 metres. Jean-Paul finished 8th in heat 2 in 58.75 and Colin finished 6th in heat 1 in 51.69 seconds.
