Athletics: Army Ten-Miler Announces Its 2008 Race Clinic Lineup

WASHINGTON, DC -- The 2008 Army Ten-Miler will feature clinics that are free and open to the public, on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4. All clinics will be held in the TANDBERG Interactive Zone located in the Race Expo at the Crystal Gateway Marriott on the corner of Eads and 15th Streets in Arlington, Va.

The clinic speakers and times are:

Jim Vandak, Race Director
Friday, Oct. 3, 2:30pm – 3:30pm
Jim will discuss the application of project management techniques to event planning. This clinic will be packed full of useful information for anyone who manages events. Jim will devote a portion of the clinic to questions and answers.

Pacers Running Store
Friday, Oct. 3, 4:30pm – 5:30pm and Saturday, October 4, 9:00am – 10:00am
Local running store owner and elite runner Chris Farley will lead a talk on selecting the correct gear for runners and walkers to ensure a happy and healthy training and racing regimen. Chris will dissect shoe, apparel, and foot type lingo and offer his views on the best in training equipment. Personal gait analyses will be available as well.
Alisa Harvey, Competitive Elite Masters Runner

Friday, Oct. 3, 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Alisa will lead a discussion on pre-race routines and pacing strategies for a ten-miler. Alisa Harvey is a hometown favorite with an illustrious running career; she found success early and has maintained it over the years. She is a four-time women’s overall champion of the Army Ten-Miler – in 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2006. She is also the 2007 USATF Masters Female Athlete of the Year.

Meredith Valmon Rainey, Former Olympian

Saturday, Oct. 4, 10:00am – 11:00am
Meredith will provide information and tips on race strategies, preparation and way to stay motivated. Meredith graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 1990. In 1989, she became the first Ivy League athlete to win an individual NCAA title. Meredith is a two-time Olympian at 800 meters: 3rd at the 1992 Olympic Games and 7th in semi-finals at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Biomechanical Assessment Clinic and Nordic Pole Walking Demo by Foot Solutions

Saturday, Oct. 4, 1:00pm – 3:00pm
The world’s largest and top-ranked health and wellness franchise focusing on foot care and proper fit. Clinic attendees will have the opportunity to receive a four-way measurement of their feet, a dynamic gait analysis as well as a computer scan and analysis. Foot Solutions will also demonstrate Nordic pole walking, described as cross-country skiing without the skis, which provide numerous health benefits.

The Army Ten-Miler is America’s largest 10-mile running event. The Army’s annual 10-mile race will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 in Washington, DC.
