Athletics: State Farm Secures Title Sponsorship Of The Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon

Melbourne, FL (Oct. 2) – The Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon is proud to announce that State Farm, the largest car and home insurer in the United States, has secured the title sponsorship of the inaugural Marathon and Half-Marathon, which will take place on February 8, 2009.

"State Farm has been a tremendous sponsor of sporting events over the past several years, and this is additional proof of the company's and its agents' commitment to community events and the support of healthy and active lifestyles," said event founder Mitch Varnes.

"State Farm is proud to be the title sponsor of the Inaugural Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon. Our participation reinforces our commitment to this community," said Deb Murphy, Agency Field Executive. "We see the community benefiting from this event through their attendance, as well as the dollars coming into the local economy by those from around the country who will be participating."

The event is gaining considerable attention in both local and national running circles due to its scenic course along the Indian River and its unique aspect of featuring 20 bands and half a dozen cheerleading squads along the route. Furthermore, there will be an emphasis on masters runners in both the Full and Half Marathons, and on running club participation from throughout the country.

Melbourne Chamber of Commerce officials have declared the State Farm Melbourne & Beaches Music Marathon as the city's Signature Sporting event. Besides the Full and Half marathons, the event will include the Florida Today 5-K run and a 1K children's Fun Run, also sponsored by Florida Today.

The event has enjoyed significant support from city officials in Brevard County, Melbourne and Indialantic, along with the Space Coast Board of Tourism and the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsorship interest has been strong with generous support from not only State Farm and Florida Today newspaper but also Health First, Delta Airlines, Melbourne International Airport, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Audi of Melbourne, Crowne Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront, Space Coast Credit Union, Bright House Networks, Beachside Performance & Health Studio, Flammio & Schultz Financial team of Wachovia Securities, Florida Eye Associates and McDonalds.

Complete information and entry forms can be found at www.themelbournemarathon.com. The next deadline for discounted early entry registration is November 30.
