Triathlon: Entry opens for Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore

Asia’s front running Ironman 70.3 enters year three

Entry to Asia’s front running Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore has opened ahead of the 2009 event, which has been brought forward to March 22nd 2009.

The third edition of the race will be the only Ironman race on March 22nd, anywhere in the world, and the exciting event is also a major qualifying event to the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater Florida.

The Singapore based event is unique, represents great value and is also an excellent chance for qualifying, with 75 qualifying slots to Clearwater and a similar climate and temperature!

With a stellar pro field in the first two editions, the 2009 edition will pay $25,000 USD in pro-prize monies.

Based in Singapore’s East Coast Park at Playground @Big Splash, the now well established event will, in 2009, feature a one lap open water swim, a smooth and fast bike course over three laps of city and suburban roads, of which many kilometres are raced on the Singapore’s ultra fast freeways. A three-lap run, through shaded, sea front parklands, brings competitors to the lively, loud and memorable finish line at Big Splash.

The Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore has moved to March after its previous date and course were overwhelmed by preparations for Singapore’s unique night time Formula One Grand Prix. The date change has however proven popular, with 2008 winners, Australian’s Simon Thompson and Rebekah Keat already confirming a defence of their titles in 2009.

The Pro field for the 2009 race is again expected to be strong; backed with local and international competitors and the entire field will be capped at 1500 individual competitors, plus teams.

The 2009 event and course has incorporated many ideas direct from competitor feedback. The swim course changes will reflect a want for the ultimate safety of the field and to provide a fair course for all. The bike course will be further improved for 2009 and consolidated, as greater access to the road structure is confirmed by local authorities.

The run will be much unchanged but fine tuning will improve some aspects of the course.

Hi-Tri Singapore, organisers of the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore strive to provide the ultimate competitor experience and the very best of memories. Allied with the unique venue that is Singapore, a safe, secure, exciting gate way to Asia destination, this is one event to add to you ‘must do’ list.
