The 13th Annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic took place at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex on Oct. 10-11, 2008 bringing athletes from many of the top colleges and high schools from across the nation to participate among elite competition. Building upon record number of competitors last season (3,300), this event featured over 4,100 entries from 15 different states, with over 3,100 runners registered in the high school division and nearly 1,000 in the college/open races.
There were 47 women and 42 men teams registered to compete in the college/open race representing all four NCAA divisions, most notably the SEC's University of Florida, University of South Carolina, ACC's University of Miami, FL and the Big East’s South Florida. The University of Tampa women (Tampa, FL), ranked 8th in Division II and the Embry-Riddle men (ranked 2nd) and women (ranked 17th) from the NAIA, lead their respective fields. In the high school division, there are 230 boys and girls teams (over 3,100 athletes) competing, of which 27 are ranked in the top-10 in their respective states.
