Running to win and to keep the title for her Foot Solutions team, Tatyana Belovol raced to victory. Sunday at the Detroit Free Press Marathon, Belovol finished in 2:40:17, with over a minute lead on runner-up Mary Akor who finished in 2:41:32.
The win was not only exciting for Belovol, but for her entire team as well. Last year her Foot Solutions teammate Anzhelika Averkova crossed the tape in 2:34:50, to give her first place. As Averkova’s time was less than 35 seconds off the record, Belovol plans on returning next year to claim the course record.
Belovol is a well-known runner and coach from her home in Ukraine. Despite the long travel, she enjoys running in the United States and this was her third marathon win.
Approaching the Master’s Division at age 39, Belovol managed to run her fastest at this race. With age, the body does not recover as quickly.
