New York- Foot Solutions’ team member, Sergey Kaledin of Russia has not only defied age with a series of incredible race performances in 2008, he has won the Masters’ Division in one of the world’s greatest road races, drawing more than 100,000 applicants. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $600,000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel in the media capital of the world before two million cheering spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers. As any one of the more than 700,000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the great thrills of a lifetime.
With a finishing time of 2:22:34, Foot Solutions Elite runner Kaledin finished with an impressive 22nd overall.
For Kaledin, he brought everything to the race as he averaged a 5:26 minute per mile pace. His years of training and experience paid off with his incredible finish. Age has not slowed Kaledin down as he turned 40 this year.
Kaledin said, Ponce De Leon traveled to St. Augustine, Florida in his search for the fountain of youth. Perhaps he would have found it if he had continued a little further to Marietta, GA where I trained and received biomechanical help from Foot Solutions 6 weeks before the New York marathon. “It’s amazing how just a small custom orthotic makes such a big difference in the walking and running world,” Kaledin said.
Teammate Meseret Kotu from Ethiopia finished in 2:50:06. As her initial pace set her up for a fast race, she passed the half way mark in 1:18:56. As her first half time matched her training, the second half of the race was not as kind to her.
Both Foot Solutions athletes are now switching gears from intense training to smart recovery. After 26.2 miles of pounding, the body needs necessary downtime, which does not mean inactivity. Often after a marathon a runner chooses to take time off, however this common practice is a typical mistake.
Today runners of all abilities are learning the benefits of active recovery through Balance Walking. As walking is a common practice the days following a marathon, Balance Walking takes the same motion and adds the upper body with nordic poles.
Along with the poles, the walkers wear the revolutionary rocker sole shoes, Chung Shi. The negative heel shoes engage larger muscle groups in the leg and aid with blood flow, which leads to faster recovery.
Overall the activity parallels that of cross-country skiing without the snow. Balance Walkers experience a quality cardiovascular and strength workout.
