Athletics: Two Ukrainians Set to Sweep the Philadelphia Marathon

November 23, 2008 - (Philadelphia Marathon) Elite runners Andriy Toptun and Vera Ovcharuk from Ukraine will be leading the field at the 15th Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, November 23. As the race continues to grow with over 8,000 participants in the marathon, the competition is inevitably building. The lead pack will be tight as the race attracts an international field with over 30 countries being represented this weekend.

In the front will be Toptun, as his training has prepared him up for a top finish. With his past marathon races, he has consistently run times that will rival any of his competitors.

Next his teammate Ovacharuk Vera is set to lead the women’s race. As this is one of her first marathons, she is planning on making the event her big debut.

The Ukrainians are apart of a large team who travel the world to compete and share their passion for running. When it comes to injury prevention and treatment, the runners are advised and treated by Dr. Thomas, the Running Doctor. Dr. Thomas is vital to the runners whether they are in his office or on the road.

When it comes to running a race, the runners do not depend on themselves. They look to their running teammates and their support with doctors and coaches. On Sunday all the hard work will come together for two standout performances.
