First-Ever National Award from Outside Magazine and Crocs Opens to Online Voters
ATLANTA, Nov. 24, 2008 – Michael Lenhart, founder of The Getting2Tri Foundation, Inc. (G2T, online at www.getting2tri.org) has been selected as one of five semi-finalists for Outside Magazine and Croc’s Inspiring Soles Award (www.inspiringsoles.com). The public will have the chance to vote online for one of the five semi-finalists at www.inspiringsoles.com from today through Jan. 9. 2009.
The first-ever Inspiring Soles Award recognizes everyday athletes dedicated to inspiring change and involving others through bold athletic endeavors. The winner, selected from the five semi-finalists, will be announced in February 2009 and in the April issue of Outside Magazine. The Inspiring Soles Award winner will receive a $25,000 donation for a charity, a full-page profile in Outside Magazine, a PSA ad for their charity as well as products from Crocs.
An avid and experienced endurance athlete, Lenhart formed G2T in 2006 to provide coaching, mentoring and training in the sports of triathlon—running, swimming, cycling—to physically-challenged individuals. “Whether it’s a small distance or the ultimate test of an Ironman, sport provides more than a chance at a podium, it provides a chance for all of us to get to the start, take the journey and cross the finish line” said Lenhart. “In sport, we are all possible no matter the state of our physical selves.”
Selected as a semi-finalist for the Inspiring Soles Award, Lenhart’s dedication to sport and to opening it up to all physically-challenged athletes is part of a core belief: that individuals with a disability deserve the inspiration, support and opportunity to participate in athletic endeavors that promote healthy, active lifestyles. G2T provides grassroots services and programs through the sports of swimming, cycling, and running to assist physically challenged individuals with their athletic pursuits, create communities for knowledge sharing, and reduce the perceived barriers between people. G2T athletes range from single sport members entering their first race as part of a relay team to seasoned triathletes competing in Kona at the Ironman World Championships. The backgrounds of physically-challenged athletes are just as varied as their goals, from wounded veterans to individuals with limb loss due to disease. “I’m very blessed and humbled,” added Lenhart. “My life is surrounded by heroes.”
