Ras Al Khaimah December 02, 2008: Once more the sporting world gets ready to turn its attention to Ras Al
Khaimah with the third edition of the RAK Half Marathon announced for
February 20th 2009.
In the race billed by some as the 'World's Top Winter Half Marathon' that
witnessed a world record time in the first year and closely fought battles
in year two that resulted in a photo finish in both the men's and women's
races, once more new standards are being set in the second smallest of the
United Arab Emirates.
"Under the guidance and vision of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al
Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and the Executive
Organizing Committee of the RAK Half Marathon we are pleased to announce
that the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has
conferred their Silver Label status on the event in only its third year,
making this a great achievement for sports in the UAE", reported Nathan
Clayton, Race Director.
Sean Wallace-Jones, Senior Manager Road Running, IAAF acknowledged the
achievement upon conferring the award; "I congratulate the RAK Half Marathon
on becoming the first road race in the Middle East to achieve this status
and wish the event much success with next year’s edition."
In recognition of this acclaim the organizers have changed the event logo
from multi-colored to silver and this theme will be carried throughout the
09 event. Organizers are also promising fast times, world class athletes,
increased prize money for all categories and more announcements to come in
this, the latest edition of the world's richest half marathon.
The RAK Half Marathon 2009 is an IAAF Silver Label Race, a full member of
the Association of Marathons and Distance Running (AIMS) and is sanctioned
by the UAE Athletics Federation. For registration information and to know
