ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - (December 3, 2008) - Despite the economic recession and growing woes in the publishing industry, one magazine is racing against the tide of bad news. Women's Running magazine, formerly known as Her Sports + Fitness, has received increased newsstand orders at three of the top bookstore retailers - Borders, Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million.
Since the magazine rebranded, the major bookstore chains have decided to amp up their newsstand orders with Borders increasing by three times, Barnes & Noble increasing by four times, and Books-A-Million requesting seven times their normal newsstand order.
In a time when large national publications are shuttering titles and cutting staff, Women's Running has increased its workforce with four new full-time staff members. New positions in circulation, events, public relations and editorial stem from increases in subscriptions, advertisers and partnerships.
The premiere issue of Women's Running magazine will be on newsstands Tuesday, December 23, with articles including a half-marathon training plan for busy women, 10 rules of weight loss for female runners and a profile of charity training groups including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training, the largest training group in the country.
