Athletics: One, Two, and Three at St. Jude Marathon

December 8, 2008 - (Memphis) With a tight race to the finish, Team Global Action battled among themselves for the win. Less than two minutes divided the top three positions. For first and second, Muluye Gurma pulled ahead by a mere four seconds to beat Meseret Kotu in 2:44:56 to 2:45:00. Svitlana Stanko came in just over a minute later in 2:46:06.

The exciting race brought the Memphis community and the world together to help the children. A total of $1.8 million was raised to fight the life-threatening diseases that these young ones are facing.

The race quickly sold out and was capped at 14,000 for all three running events. Despite the chilling temperatures, the runners and supporters flooded the streets to support the children.
