Triathlon: USA Triathlon Announces 2009 National Championships

Variety of multisport distances, disciplines featured in 11 events across nine states

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 9, 2008) -- USA Triathlon (USAT) has announced the dates and locations for its 2009 National Championship events.

The 11 National Championship events are being held in nine different states and cover seven of USAT's 10 regions, giving members the opportunity to compete against the best in each of the different distances and disciplines.

Four of the locations are serving as hosts for the first time, while the others have a long history of supporting multisport events.

"Athletes can look forward to some new venues but also to returning to a few great venues. All the venues have proven strong support for the sport and a hunger to welcome great athletes into their communities," said USAT National Events Director Jeff Dyrek. "Many of these venues have already been part of a National Championship atmosphere and are eager to welcome athletes back. USAT's National Championships are building a strong tradition and 2009 will continue to provide some of the most competitive fields these athletes will ever face."

USA Triathlon National Championship events provide the ultimate competition for amateur and professional multisport athletes in the United States. For the amateurs, the events not only provide the right to be called a national champion, but also qualifying opportunities to compete with Team USA at International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championships. World championship teams are fielded for Short Course Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, Long Course Triathlon, Short Course Duathlon, Long Course Duathlon, Aquathlon, and Winter Triathlon.
