December 12, 2008 - (Dallas) The Dallas White Rock Marathon will take place this weekend and the elite list is stacked with fast runners from around the world in the woman's division. Team Global Action will be represented by Ilona Baranova of Ukraine who is among the woman's elite field. With her fastest marathon in 2:36:07, Baranova is ready to race with her top competitors.
With a handful of runners contending for the win, the spot light is on Svetlana Ponomarenko. Returning champion Ponomarenko from Russia is racing to regain her title. In 2006 she swept the field in 2:29:55, over 10 minutes ahead of second place.
The exciting race will take place near downtown Dallas with the start and finish in Victory Park. The course takes the runners through the Turtle Creek area, around the beautiful White Rock Lake and into the Swiss Avenue historical district. Overall the distance is fairy flat with a few rolling hills.
Entertainment along the course is a highlight to the runners looking for a distraction along the 26.2 miles.
Although the temperatures are predicted to be in the 70's with gusty winds, the weather will be no contest for these driven athletes.
