(Team Global Active) Ilona Baranova did her best with the high temperatures and windy conditions at the Dallas White Rock Marathon. With a time of 2:46:42, Barvanova broke the top five to come in fifth place. As Barvanova's time was far off from what she had trained for, overall the times were significantly slower. The men's race had not seen this slow of a time since 2002 when there was no elite field and this year was the women's slowest finish in four years.
Winner Svetlana Ponomorenko crossed the line in 2:37:14, which is significantly off her previous course record set in 2006 at 2:29:55. Ponomorenko broke away early from the pack and ran by herself for most of the race, as second place Liza Galvan finished over four minutes behind in 2:41:57.
Despite the discouragement from the runners, there was a great sense of accomplishment after not only defeating the distance but the trying elements of the weather as well.
With over 15,000 racers, the Rock successfully executed their 39th race as a parallel race was held in Mosul, Iraq on a military base. The course was a seven lap, 3.74-mile loop, over a gravel route. The White Rock organizers sent over marathon medallions and T-Shirts. The race was won by a Turkish soldier from Istanbul in 3:11:22.
