Just 400 Spots Remain
(Duluth, Minn.) The field for 20th annual running of the Fitger’s 5K Run & Walk is nearing capacity. The 3.1-mile race, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, is about three-fourths full, with 400 spots to fill before the 1,500-participant limit is reached.
For the first time, the Fitger’s 5K registration process is being conducted exclusively online. The 1,500-person cap is also a change for 2009, as is the elimination of race-day registration.
Runners and walkers looking to secure one of the remaining 400 spots in the Saturday, April 18 event should log on to www.GrandmasMarathon.com. The entry free is $25 with all net proceeds benefiting the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF).
The race, which drew a record 1,355 registrants last year and 934 in 2007, begins at 9 a.m. on East Superior Street in front of Fitger’s and travels through downtown Duluth and Canal Park before finishing back at Fitger’s. An award ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m.
The YAF is a Grandma's Marathon program that focuses on the promotion and development of youth athletics throughout Carlton, Cook, Douglas, Lake and St. Louis Counties. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $325,000 to area nonprofit youth athletic organizations.
