(St. Paul, MN -- 3/25/2009)-- "Best of the US" Management and Start 2 Finish, Inc. invite the triathletes of the Magnolia State to compete at the 19th annual DRAGON FLY TRIATHLON / BEST OF THE US MISSISSIPPI QUALIFIER, a popular and prestigious event staged at picturesque Sardis Lake near Batesville in northern Mississippi. The race, consisting of a half-mile swim, 18-mile bike and 4-mile run, is slated for Saturday, June 13.
The 2008 Best of the US Championship was won by Mississippi's Margot Hair, who may be the best kept secret in US amateur triathlon, having only taken up the sport in 2007 and raced perhaps a half dozen times since. The 28 year old from Diamondhead is nothing short of remarkable. In addition to being a World Class amateur triathlete, she is also an astronautical engineer and a cancer survivor. (See Best of the US Co-Director Trudy Marshall's story below.)
Among the other Mississsippi triathletes we hope to see at Dragon Fly '09, are Steve Cole, Chris Boyd, Amanda Cassell, Sheryl Chatfield, Angie Dickerson, Clay Curtis, Amy Davis, Tripp Davis, DeShon Davis, Chuck Engle, Erica Hemmy, Heidi Howe, Sam Hudson, Cathy Henderson, Christy Jayne, Cassie Kippie, John Noblin, Eugene O'Donnell, Kasey Perkins, 2006 BOUS delegate Kathryn Povolo, Chuck Rose, Sandra Schliesing, Marc Sims, Kelly White, Alisha Wingerter, and Alex Woodward.
The fastest male and female resident amateurs will receive invitations to represent Mississippi at the "Best of the US National Championship" on September 27 in Mission Viejo, California.
