Golden, CO -- On Sunday morning, May 17, 2009 the Maple
Grove Elementary School PTA will be holding its second annual 5K race event --
"Gallop at the Grove." Proceeds from the event benefit many important programs
that Maple Grove Elementary School PTA funds for the students and school.
Gallop at the Grove will be a morning of fun and fitness for individuals, students, and
families throughout the community. The event mission is to encourage physical
fitness and sportsmanship and foster a personal commitment to community. Emmy
Award Winning Channel 4 Sportscaster Vic Lombardi will be on hand as the celebrity
race announcer.
"Last year we exceeded our expectations with more than 400 participants and strong
sponsorship." noted Naomi Gravelding, Race Co-Chair. "Our hope is that participating
in a tradition like the Gallop at the Grove inspires children to make a life-long
commitment to physical activity."
Last year's event was a huge success and received accolades from the local running
community. "Among the best 1st year races I have ever seen," noted Amie Durden,
Owner, Running Bears Timing Company. Organizers hope the race will not only
serve as a great community building activity for the school and the neighborhood,
but will also serve as an alternative event for runners looking for a fast, short course
race being held the same day as the Colfax Marathon.
The 5K race course will start adjacent to the school and make its way through the
beautiful Applewood neighborhood. There will also be a 1K fun run for kids, a
drawing, and prizes. In addition to race day activities, there will also be a weekly
running program that gives students and their families an opportunity to train for the
event. Many of the race volunteers are students from local middle and high schools.

other volunteers who support a variety of programs and activities at the school.
