Britain’s Ironcouple Stephen and Bella Bayliss who finished 2nd male and 1st women respectively at this year's Volcano triathlon in Lanzarote are aiming for similarly impressive results at this weekend's Ironman Lanzarote (May 23rd, 2009).
Ironman Lanzarote is world renowned as one of the toughest Ironman courses with the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run competition being battled out in what is traditionally high heat and winds, not to mention one of the world's hilliest Ironman bike course's.
Bella goes into the race a clear favourite as the reigning women's champion and Stephen, with victories last year at Ironman South Africa and UK and having not finished outside the top five of an Ironman in the last two years, will be a clear force to deal with.
Bella Comments; "On Saturday I will race Ironman Lanzarote for the 3rd time. I love the challenge of the race, as it is a very testing course with many volcanoes to climb, a lot of wind to cope with and it can be very hot too. In 2002 I came 3rd and last year I won Ironman Lanzarote. That win was one of my most special wins. On Saturday I will do everything I can to have a very strong race and I hope that puts me in a very competitive situation again like last year!"
Stephen Comments "Bella and I have been staying at Club La Santa, Lanzarote for the past 5 weeks, we have done some great training here on the Island and using the facilities at Club La Santa. I feel strong and fit and want to race smart so as I can perform to my best on Saturday, if I race to the best of my abilities I feel I can have a very good race."
