Triangle South Africa, organizers of the Ironman events, have set a limit of 1800 entrants for the 2010 Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa which will be held for the sixth time in Port Elizabeth on the 25th April.
There has been considerable interest in the 2010 race, both from a national and international perspective. The Ironman will be a fore-runner to the much awaited World Cup Soccer that is set to bring a flood of tourists to the city. What with Port Elizabeth being a host city the world’s attention will fall on us and this has sparked the interest of a number of internationals who have already booked their spot come 2010.
A number of athletes have taken part in the previous five Ironman events and will be eager to notch up another finish and head towards that all important 10th finish. This will afford them the honour of joining a select few and the privilege of being awarded a special edition shirt to be worn with pride.
Race Director Paul Wolff had this to say about the 2010 race, “We are eager to make the race extremely special for both the athletes and the spectators. The whole city will be on the brink of the soccer World Cup and the vibe is going to be incredible. This is one Ironman that you don’t want to miss out on.”
Entries have already opened and the early warning is to allow athletes who are toying with the idea of entering make the commitment and begin their training.
