Triathlon: 5th Annual Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon Weekend -- Over 1000 Triathletes to swim from island in Biscayne Bay.

US Road Sports & Entertainment of Florida announces that the 5th Annual Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon will take place Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Margaret Pace Park in downtown Miami. This event offers participants both an Olympic distance presented by Cytomax and Muscle Milk and Sprint distance presented by US Road Sports. With an expected 1500 participants coming from all over the U.S. as well as foreign entries, this highly anticipated race will provide the Eastern U.S. with an Escape from Alcatraz style race amid the beautiful backdrop of Downtown Miami and scenic Miami Beach.

With one of the most unique and thrilling race starts in the triathlon world, swimmers will be ferried out to "Escape Island" in the middle of Biscayne Bay off Downtown Miami. "The Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon has been called one of the toughest around, with finishers proclaiming they feel like they finished a half-iron," stated David Scott, General Manager and Race Director for US Road Sports & Entertainment of Florida. Swimmers will complete a .9 mile swim, reaching Miami at Margaret Pace Park, where the challenge continues. A 2-loop bike course will bring bikers across Biscayne Bay, with a panoramic view of the Miami and Miami Beach skylines towering over "Escape Island." The fast straightaway on the causeway leads bikers to and from the quiet streets of residential Miami Beach lined by large, historic houses. Bikers will head back to Pace Park for the final challenge - the run portion.

The Escape concludes with an exciting run that will provide a competitive finish. Set along the water, runners will head through the Performing Arts District and over to Watson Island, passing cruise ships, American Airlines Arena and catching a final glimpse of where it all started - "Escape Island." The picturesque finish line will be set with the ocean and the island in the background, providing triathletes with the perfect view and a lasting memory of their Escape to Miami.

Registration for the Fifth Annual Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon Weekend remains open but there are fewer than 100 spots remaining in the Olympic Distance. The Sprint Distance is now closed.
