NEW YORK - Yet another Super Bowl veteran and champion sprinter has joined the start list for the Super 60, a special invitational 60-meter race held as part of the 103rd Millrose Games.
A veteran of two Super Bowls, Anthony Dorsett, Jr., brings record-setting track speed and athleticism into the race, which is scheduled for Friday, January 29 at Madison Square Garden. Also set to run are WR Willie Gault, WR/return specialist Tim Dwight, DE Ryan LaCasse and Dorsett's former teammate, CB Phillip Buchanon.
Dorsett played in the NFL from 1996 through 2003, starting at safety for Tennessee in Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, and also playing for the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003. Dorsett's best year is generally considered to be 2001, when he returned two interceptions for touchdowns as a Raider.
Blessed with the foot speed one would expect of the scion of one of the NFL's legendary running backs, Dorsett's speed was honed on the track while at the University of Pittsburgh. The 6-0, 200-pound Dorsett was the 1995 IC4A champion in the 55-meter dash (6.28) and ran second leg on Pitt's 1995 BIG EAST champion 4x100m relay team outdoors. With Dorsett leading off, the Pitt 4x100 (40.04) and 4x200m (1:23.96) relay teams ran school records.
Since retiring from the NFL, Dorsett has pursued a number of ventures. A personal training consultant, he has worked as an actor and model. His new, 12-month calendar will be available on February 1 and he is in negotiations to play Det. Dominic Jackson in the Motion Picture "Pike", co-starring Bruce Willis.
