Athletics: Gryphon Men Move To Top Of Track And Field Rankings

After their dominating win at the McGill Team Challenge the Gryphon men's track and field team has moved into the number one ranking in the CIS. The Gryphons led by Kyle Boorsma's top ranking in the both the 1500 and 3000 metres boast seven athletes ranked in the top three in their events. Joining Boorsma are Dustin Gamble second in the 600 metres, Cornell Haynes second in the men's high jump, Dustin McCrank second in the men's weight throw, Rob Jackson third in the 1500 metres, Nigel Wray third in the 3000 metres and Tim Hendry third in the men's shot put.

The Gryphon women are once again locked in a title battle with the Windsor Lancers. The ranking appear eerily similar to last year, which saw the Lancers snatch the title from the Gryphons in the final event. The Lancers are currently ranked first with the Gryphons a mere four points back. Like the men the Gryphon women are led by the top seed in the 1500 and 3000 metres in Rachel Cliff. The Gryphon women are dominating the middle distance rankings with Nadine Frost ranked first in the 1000 metres and the school's 4 x 800 metre relay team also occupying the top spot. Also ranked among the top three are Frost's twin sister Lydia who is ranked third in the women's 1000, Sarah Peirce who is ranked second in the women's 60 metres and rookie Genevieve Lalonde third in the women's 3000 metres.

The CIS Championships will be held March 11th to 13th at the University of Windsor.
